Question 162

Website Navigation Usability Study

Researchers investigated user engagement with a newly designed subscription landing page to determine how long users spent viewing the page before deciding whether to sign up. They wanted to test whether users made an almost immediate decision, as suggested by previous research into online consumer behavior.

They collected data from 500 participants whose online behavior was tracked in a controlled lab environment. The researchers recorded the time, in seconds, each participant spent on the page before either clicking the "Sign Up" button or closing the tab.

The time taken to reach a decision was split into four categories:

  • Under 3 seconds
  • 3 to 15 seconds
  • 15 to 45 seconds
  • More than 45 seconds.

Table 1: Time taken to reach a decision

Time taken to reach a decisionPercentage (%) of users in this time period
Under 3 seconds24
3 to 15 seconds36
15 to 45 seconds25
More than 45 seconds15

Calculate the ratio of those users who made their decision in under 3 seconds to those users who made their decision in more than 45 seconds.

You must express the ratio to the lowest whole numbers.
