An environmental psychologist conducted an experiment to investigate whether natural lighting increases productivity in a workplace setting. A sample of fifty office workers was recruited. Twenty-five of the workers were randomly selected to perform a data-entry task in a room with large windows letting in natural sunlight, while the remaining twenty-five workers performed the same task in an identical room illuminated only by standard fluorescent ceiling lights. The number of data-entry errors made by each worker was recorded.
