Researchers wanted to investigate whether wearing a smartwatch with active notifications influences cognitive performance. In a laboratory experiment, 80 participants were observed while completing a 20-minute analytical reasoning task.
The researchers manipulated whether the participants wore a smartwatch that vibrated with notifications during the task, or wore a standard analogue watch. The researchers measured the total score achieved on the analytical reasoning task for both groups.
