Question 123

A local newspaper has invited readers to respond to a proposal to turn the town’s unused railway station building into a community workshop. The proposal would offer repair and practical skills sessions run by volunteers. The newspaper has received these comments:

ReaderComment
A“A workshop could help people repair belongings instead of throwing them away. Volunteers could share useful skills, and the sessions would give people a reason to meet.”
B“The idea sounds appealing, but volunteers may not be available every week. The building would need work before sessions could begin, and the council should consider whether another use would benefit more people.”

Write an article for your local newspaper arguing whether the council should approve the proposal. In your article, evaluate the strength of the two readers’ arguments, explain your own view and justify a clear recommendation to the council.
