Researchers wanted to investigate whether the presence of open laptops during university seminars influences peer connectedness and cognitive engagement. In a naturalistic observation, 80 student dyads were observed during a 15-minute collaborative learning task.
At the end of the session, to measure peer connectedness and cognitive engagement, ranked scale questions were used where 1 indicated not connected (peer connectedness) or not engaged (cognitive engagement) and 7 indicated highly connected / highly engaged.
Explain two weaknesses of using ranked scale questions in this study.
