Dr Evelyn Carter carried out an investigation into the psychological transition experience of retired elite athletes adjusting to life after competitive sport.
She conducted unstructured, in-depth interviews with 12 retired Olympic athletes, asking them to describe their emotional struggles, shifts in identity, and coping mechanisms during their retirement. She then transcribed these interviews verbatim, creating a rich corpus of qualitative data.
Evelyn decided to use thematic analysis to interpret this qualitative data.
Describe how Evelyn could analyse the qualitative data she has collected using thematic analysis.
