Titanium can be extracted from titanium(IV) chloride, TiCl4\text{TiCl}_4TiCl4, by reaction with molten magnesium.
45.0 tonnes of titanium(IV) chloride was reacted with magnesium. The titanium metal formed in the reaction was separated and purified. The mass of titanium produced was then determined.
