Dr. Vance conducted an experiment to investigate whether cognitive load, manipulated via background auditory stimulation, affects working memory performance. Using a repeated measures design, 24 university students were recruited. All participants first completed a complex span task in a completely silent environment, and then immediately completed an equivalent complex span task while exposed to 75 dB of pink noise. The order of these conditions was identical for every participant.
