She split her participants into two groups:

  • Condition A: Participants studied a list of 15 words in a silent room and recalled them in the same silent room.
  • Condition B: Participants studied a list of 15 words in a silent room and recalled them in a classroom with loud background noise.

Each participant only took part in one condition.

The results of Dr Kovac's experiment are shown in Table 1.
