The empty frame
On moving day, Dad wrapped every picture before the removal men arrived. I asked about the empty frame above the stairs. He said the glass was too awkward to pack and we would leave it. At the new flat, boxes filled the hallway, and we ate supper from the saucepan. Dad went downstairs for the last load. When he returned, he carried the frame under one arm. Inside it was the strip of kitchen wallpaper on which Mum had marked our heights. The tallest pencil line was mine. Beneath it, in smaller writing, she had added the date.
Explain how the final reveal changes the significance of the empty frame. Refer to the sequence of information.
