The notice
A notice appeared in the flats: THE LIFT WILL BE REPAIRED SHORTLY. On the third floor, Mrs Webb put her shopping bag down halfway along the corridor. On the seventh, a father folded a pushchair and lifted a sleeping child. On the ground floor, the notice remained perfectly clean. After a week, someone crossed out SHORTLY and wrote a date beneath it. By evening, five different households had added their names.
On which floor did Mrs Webb live, and what word was crossed out?
