Question 31

Study Description

In a correlational study, a sociologist investigated whether there was a relationship between the average number of hours of physical exercise per week and self-reported stress levels among office workers.

The researcher randomly selected 20 participants from a local business park. On the day of the study, each participant recorded their weekly exercise hours and rated their general stress level over the past month on a scale of 1 to 10 (where 10 is extremely stressed).

The researcher hypothesised that there would be a significant negative correlation between physical exercise and stress levels.

Explain why the researcher decided to use the 5% level of significance (p≤0.05p \le 0.05p≤0.05) rather than the 1% level (p≤0.01p \le 0.01p≤0.01) in this study.
