Question 42

Usability Study of Menu Interfaces

In an investigation into user interface efficiency, a software engineer wants to compare two different menu designs: a Carousel Menu and a Dropdown Menu.

A sample of 16 participants is selected. Each participant is asked to locate a specific setting using both menu designs. After completing the task with each design, the participant rates the ease of navigation on a scale of 1 to 10 (where 1 is "extremely difficult" and 10 is "extremely easy").

The engineer wants to test for a significant difference between the usability ratings of the two menu designs. They propose using an independent-samples ttt-test to analyse the ratings.

Suggest a more appropriate statistical test of difference for the engineer to use with this data. Explain two reasons for your choice based on the description of the study.
