An experiment is set up to investigate standing waves on a stretched string as shown in the diagram below.

A standing wave apparatus. A string is stretched horizontally over a pulley with hanging masses at one end. A movable wooden bridge is placed on the table, and the string extends to a vibration generator connected to a signal generator showing 60 Hz. The distance between the movable wooden bridge and the vibration generator is 120 cm. The vibrating string shows a stable standing wave pattern with exactly three loops (one and a half wavelengths).
