MathsGenie is a maths revision site for GCSE and A Level (plus IGCSE, AS and International qualifications). You work through past papers, topic questions, lessons, revision notes and flashcards, all organised by exam board, and you can have your written answers marked by AI.
Past papers and mark schemes are free and unlimited. On top of that, a free account gets a weekly allowance of lessons, revision notes, flashcards, walkthroughs and question topics, plus 20 energy a week to spend on Ask Genie and answer marking. The allowances reset every week.
Make a free account, tell us which qualification and exam board you are sitting, then let the revision planner turn your exam dates into a day-by-day plan. If you only do one thing, do past papers for the board you are actually sitting.

Revision & practice
Choose your qualification, then your subject and exam board, and open the papers tab. Past papers and their mark schemes are free and unlimited on every plan, including a free account.
A free account gets a number of topics a week, not a number of questions. Opening any question inside a topic uses one slot and then unlocks that topic’s whole question bank for you permanently, so what you unlock accumulates instead of disappearing at the weekly reset.
A lesson teaches the topic interactively and expects you to answer as you go. A revision note is the condensed version to revise from once you have already met the topic. Videos are worked explanations you watch. There is one lesson and one revision note per topic.
Flashcards come as a deck per topic, and your reviews are scheduled by spaced repetition: cards you get wrong come back soon, cards you know come back much later. One free allowance slot is a whole topic’s deck, not a single card.
They are on each topic, on the booklet, worksheet and solutions tabs. One unlock covers all three for that topic, so you never have to unlock the answers separately from the questions.
Open the mock exam builder and either choose the topics and let it generate a paper, or pick the questions yourself. Work through it at your own pace, with marks and feedback on each question. Free accounts can create a couple of mock exams a week; Pro removes that limit.
Answer a few questions about your subjects, your exam dates and how much time you have, and the planner builds a day-by-day plan. Your tasks for today then appear there, so the decision about what to revise is made before you sit down.
AI tools & energy
Energy is a weekly balance shown in the top bar. A free account gets 20 energy a week, spent on chatting with Ask Genie (1 per 15-minute session, not per message), grading an answer (1), and unlocking extra content (3) once you have used that week’s free allowance. It refills every week, and Plus and Pro have unlimited energy so the meter disappears.
Ask Genie is the built-in AI maths tutor. Use it when you are stuck and want the method explained rather than just the answer. It is on its own page and also as a chat you can open from anywhere on the site. Chatting spends 1 energy per 15 minutes, not per message.
Teach Genie flips it round: you explain the topic and it asks the questions. Explaining something out loud is the fastest way to find the gaps you cannot see while reading, because you cannot skim past a step you do not actually understand.
Submit your written answer to a long-answer question and it is marked against the mark scheme, showing which marks you earned and where you lost them. It does not spend energy: it has its own weekly count, and a free account gets one submission a week.
Upload your completed paper and its matching mark scheme as two PDFs to get annotations on your working. Each file must be no larger than 25MB. A free account gets one paper upload, and re-marking a paper you have already uploaded does not count again.
A walkthrough takes you through a question’s method, step by step, rather than just showing the answer. Free accounts get a weekly allowance, and it is worth knowing that every time you open one it counts, even re-opening one you have seen before.
Plans & billing
There are three plans. Free gives you unlimited past papers and a weekly allowance of everything else. Plus removes the weekly limits on the revision library and gives you unlimited energy. Pro is Plus with the limits on the AI tools removed too.
Pick by the limit you keep hitting. If you run out of lessons, notes, flashcards, walkthroughs, question topics or energy, Plus is enough. If you run out of Teach Genie sessions, Answer marking, mock exams or paper uploads, only Pro lifts those.
Go to Settings, then Subscription, and choose Cancel subscription. It stops the next payment rather than cutting you off, so you keep Plus or Pro until the period you have already paid for runs out. If something isn't right with a payment, get in touch and we'll help sort it out.
Reload the page first. Your plan is checked when a page loads and the answer is held for a few minutes, so a tab you left open can keep showing the old one. If a reload does not fix it, the usual causes are a payment that did not complete, or a payment made on a different account from the one you are signed in to.
Your account
You can sign in with Google, Apple or Microsoft, with a code sent to your email, or with a password if you have set one. Use the same method you signed up with. If your work has vanished, you are almost certainly on a second account rather than having lost anything.
Nearly all of it is in Settings: your username, password, avatar, subjects, target grades, year group, school and exam dates. The exception is your email address, which you cannot change yourself. Message us and we will move the account to the new address for you.
It is at the bottom of Settings, under the danger zone. Deleting is immediate and permanent: there is no grace period and nothing to restore afterwards. If you are on a paid plan you have to cancel it first, and the option will be blocked until you do.
Turn off product news and offers in your settings, or use the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any email we send. Streak reminders are controlled separately: they stop when you turn streaks off. Account and security emails are always sent and cannot be switched off.
Teachers & schools
Choose Teacher or Tutor when you sign up, and you land on the classrooms area instead of the student home page. If you already picked Student, you cannot change it yourself: message us and we will switch it over, keeping the same login and everything on it.
Create the class from the classrooms area, then give your students its join code. Homework and tests are marked for you and collect in a gradebook. The free tier covers three people and one live piece of homework at a time; a school licence lifts both.
Sign in first, then enter the code in the classrooms area, or just open the join link your teacher sent. Your homework appears in the class once you are in. Joining a class does not change your plan and does not give you Plus or Pro.
A school licence lifts the free classroom limits — no cap on students, unlimited live homework — and every member of the school, staff and students alike, gets full Pro on their own account, including unlimited AI marking. Licences are set up by us rather than bought in-app: email hello@mathsgenie.co.uk.
Troubleshooting
Reload the page. A tab left open while we release an update is the most common cause, and a reload fixes it. If it happens again, the error page shows an error ID. Send us that ID with a note of what you were doing, and it takes us straight to what failed.
Upload two PDFs: your completed paper and its matching mark scheme. Each must be no larger than 25MB, readable and not password-protected. Save phone photos as a PDF before uploading.
High demand means you have sent a lot of requests in a short time, not that you are out of energy. Wait a few minutes and it clears on its own. And if a request fails, the energy for it is put back automatically, so a failure should not leave you short.
