How do I change my details?

Almost everything is in your settings: username, password, avatar, subjects, target grades, year group, school and exam dates. Your email address is the exception and has to be changed by us.

Ask Genie says high demand, or my energy vanished

High demand means you have gone too fast, not that you are out of energy; wait a few minutes. Energy is refunded automatically when a request fails, so a failure should not leave you short.

What is Ask Genie, and how do I use it well?

Ask Genie is the AI maths tutor. It explains a method rather than handing over an answer, and you can photograph your written working into it. Each message spends energy.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Cancel from Subscription in your settings. It stops the next payment and you keep your plan until the period you have already paid for ends. Payments already taken are not refunded.

How do I delete my account?

Settings has a delete option at the bottom. It is immediate and permanent, with no recovery period, and you have to cancel a paid plan before it will let you.

How do I stop the emails?

Turn off product emails in your settings, or use the unsubscribe link in any email. Streak reminders stop when you turn streaks off. Account and security emails are always sent.

What is energy, and what spends it?

Energy is the weekly balance that Ask Genie messages, answer grading and extra content unlocks spend. A free account gets 20 a week, it refills every week, and Plus and Pro have unlimited energy.

How do flashcards work?

Flashcards come as a deck per topic and are reviewed on a spaced-repetition schedule, so cards you find hard come back sooner than ones you know.

How do I get started?

Pick your qualification and exam board, then work backwards from your exam dates with the revision planner and practise topic by topic.

My teacher gave me a code. How do I join?

Sign in, then enter the code in the classrooms area or open the link your teacher sent. Joining does not change your plan and does not give you Plus or Pro.

What is the difference between lessons, revision notes and videos?

Lessons teach a topic interactively, revision notes are the condensed version to revise from, and videos are worked explanations. Each has its own weekly free allowance.

How do I build a mock exam?

The mock exam builder makes a paper from topics you choose, or from questions you pick yourself, so you can sit a timed paper on exactly the topics you are revising.

Where has the old MathsGenie site gone?

The old site is still online at old.mathsgenie.co.uk, and the old worksheets, booklets, solutions and papers have all been carried across into the new one.

I paid but I still don't have Plus or Pro

Almost always a stale page. Reload first. If it is still wrong after a reload, check whether the payment actually completed and whether you paid on a different account, then email us.

How do I get a whole paper marked?

Upload a photo or scan of your completed paper and it is marked against the mark scheme. Free accounts get one upload a week, and re-marking a paper you already uploaded is free.

My paper won't upload or won't mark

Uploads have to be PDFs under 25MB. Password-protected and image-only scans are the usual failures. Re-marking a paper you have already uploaded does not use another upload.

How do I find past papers and mark schemes?

Pick your qualification, subject and exam board, then open the papers tab. Past papers and mark schemes are free and unlimited on every plan.

What are Free, Plus and Pro?

Free gives you unlimited past papers plus a weekly allowance of everything else. Plus lifts the limits on the revision library and gives you unlimited energy. Pro lifts the limits on the AI tools as well.

Should I get Plus or Pro?

Plus lifts the limits on the revision library and on energy. Pro also lifts the limits on Teach Genie, Question marking, mock exams and paper marking. Pick by which limit you actually keep hitting.

How does the question bank work, and why is it counted in topics?

One slot is a whole topic, not one question. Opening any question in a topic unlocks that topic's questions for you permanently, even after the weekly reset.

How does Question marking work?

Submit a written answer to a long-answer question and it is marked against the mark scheme, showing which marks you earned and which you missed.

How does the revision planner work?

A short wizard turns your subjects and exam dates into a day-by-day plan, and your daily tasks then appear on the planner.

How do school licences and Classroom Pro work?

Classroom Pro is bought per seat and lifts the free classroom limits. A licence covers the teaching side, not students' personal plans, so it does not give your students Plus or Pro. For a whole school, email us.

How do I set up a class and add my students?

Create the class from the classrooms area, then share its join code. Homework and tests are marked automatically and land in a gradebook. The free tier covers one class with three people.

How do I sign in, and what if I can't?

You can sign in with Google, Apple, Microsoft, a code sent to your email, or a password. Use the same method you signed up with, because a different method on the same address can leave you looking at a second, empty account.

Something went wrong. What do I do?

Reload first, because a tab left open across a release is the most common cause. If it keeps happening, note the error ID on the page and report it, since that ID takes us straight to what failed.

How do I get a teacher account?

Choose Teacher or Tutor when you sign up. If you already picked Student you cannot switch it yourself, so email us and we will change it without you losing anything.

Teach Genie flips the tutoring round: you explain the topic and it asks the questions, which exposes the parts you only thought you understood.

What is a walkthrough?

A walkthrough takes you through a question's method step by step. Free accounts get a weekly allowance, and every time you open one it counts, including repeat views.
