Delivering the concert programmes
Source A: an original contemporary non-fiction-style account.
Our orchestra's programmes arrived from the printer on Friday, a day before the concert. I collected four boxes in my car and drove them to the school hall. The caretaker unlocked the side door because the main entrance was being painted. Inside, I counted the bundles with the concert organiser. Each bundle contained fifty programmes, and we put two bundles on the ticket desk before storing the rest in a cupboard.
While checking a copy, we noticed that the interval had been printed as twenty minutes instead of fifteen. The organiser decided to announce the correct length before the music began. There was no time to print the whole order again. On Saturday I helped hand out programmes and pointed visitors towards the cloakroom. A few people asked about the cover photograph, which had been taken at our rehearsal rather than at a previous concert. I was relieved that the only mistake we had found concerned five minutes, not the name of the conductor.
