An experiment is planned to investigate how the pH changes as copper(II) oxide powder is added to 30 cm3 of dilute sulfuric acid.

The student's proposed method is:

  • Step 1: Pour dilute sulfuric acid up to the 30 cm3 mark on a glass beaker.
  • Step 2: Add one small spoonful of copper(II) oxide powder and stir.
  • Step 3: Record the pH of the mixture.
  • Step 4: Repeat steps 2 and 3 until the pH no longer changes.

State two improvements the student should make to this method so that the volume of dilute sulfuric acid and the quantity of copper(II) oxide are measured with greater accuracy.
