Researchers wanted to investigate whether cooperative behavior is expressed similarly cross-culturally and how these tendencies develop from childhood into adulthood. They sampled 280 children and 150 adults of varying ages from two distinct socio-cultural environments: an urban Swedish city and a rural Kenyan community.
To measure cooperation, participants played a resource allocation game where they had to choose between a cooperative choice (benefiting both players equally) and a competitive choice (maximizing self-gain at the cost of the other).
| Age | Urban Swedish (%) | Rural Kenyan (%) |
|---|---|---|
| 4 | 40 | 25 |
| 5 | 35 | 30 |
| 6 | 30 | 35 |
| 7 | 25 | 40 |
| 8 | 30 | 35 |
| 9 | 35 | 30 |
| 10 | 45 | 20 |
| 11 | 50 | 15 |
| 12 | 55 | 10 |
| 13 | 58 | 8 |
| 14 | 60 | 5 |
| 15 | 62 | 4 |
| Adult | 30 | 65 |
Analyse the data in Table 1 to explain two conclusions that the researchers investigating cooperative behaviour and culture might draw from these results.
