Zinc ions can inhibit the growth of duckweed. To investigate this, a student set up two flasks:

  • Flask A contained 200 cm3 of mineral nutrient solution with zinc ions and five duckweed plants with a total of 10 leaves.
  • Flask B (the control) contained 200 cm3 of the same mineral nutrient solution without zinc ions and five duckweed plants with a total of 10 leaves.

The student counted the number of living leaves every two days. The table below shows her results:
