Figure 1 shows how the concentration of glucose in a person's blood changes after they consume a carbohydrate-rich meal.

Figure 1: A line graph showing blood glucose concentration in mmol/dm³ on the y-axis against time in minutes on the x-axis. The y-axis scales from 4.0 to 10.0 mmol/dm³ in increments of 1.0. The x-axis scales from 0 to 60 minutes in increments of 10. At 0 minutes, the blood glucose concentration is 5.0 mmol/dm³. It increases steadily, reaching a peak of 9.0 mmol/dm³ at 30 minutes. From 30 to 40 minutes, it decreases from 9.0 to 8.0 mmol/dm³, and continues downwards to 5.5 mmol/dm³ by 60 minutes.
