Watching live-streaming creators has become a highly popular online activity, with viewers often purchasing virtual gifts (such as digital badges, stickers, or special animations) using real money to support creators or gain their direct attention during broadcasts.
A group of researchers wanted to investigate whether the number of virtual transactions correlated with the time spent watching live-streams. The researchers asked 40 active users of a popular streaming platform to report the average number of minutes they spent watching live-streams per week and the number of virtual gifts they purchased in a month.
Using research evidence, explain how far biological psychology could account for the findings regarding the purchase of virtual gifts in the live-streaming social platform study.
