Maya is two years old. Her primary caregiver, her father, had to spend eight weeks abroad for professional training. During this time, Maya was placed in a residential nursery during the week and spent her weekends with an aunt she had only met once before.
Since her father's return, Maya alternates between ignoring him completely when he comes home from work and screaming hysterically whenever he tries to leave the room. She also refuses to play with her toys. Her father is very concerned about whether this temporary separation will permanently affect her ability to form healthy relationships in the future.
Assess how far research into deprivation could explain the short-term and long-term effects of Maya's temporary separation from her father.
