She wanted to see if members of the public were more likely to obey a request to pick up a piece of litter when the requester wore a security guard uniform compared to casual clothes. She randomly allocated 60 passers-by, with 30 participating in Condition X (security guard uniform) and 30 participating in Condition Y (casual clothes).
