Dr Vance conducted a field study in a category C prison to investigate whether a new cognitive-behavioural anger management programme was effective at reducing verbal aggression among inmates. She compared a group of inmates who participated in the 6-week anger management programme (Condition A) with a matched control group of inmates on the waiting list (Condition B).
Dr Vance recorded the number of self-reported verbal aggression incidents for each participant during a one-month post-intervention monitoring period.
