Dr Vance is conducting an investigation into the effectiveness of a computerised cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) programme designed to reduce recidivism risk scores among newly sentenced offenders.
To control for key participant variables, Dr Vance pairs each offender receiving the CBT programme with another offender of the same age, gender, and category of offence who receives standard educational support instead. After six months, the recidivism risk scores of both groups are compared.
