An investigation was conducted to compare the reactivity of four metals: W, X, Y, and Z.

Equal-sized pieces of each metal were added to excess dilute hydrochloric acid at room temperature and observed for three minutes.

Table 1 shows the observations noted during the reactions for metals W, Y, and Z.

WRapid effervescence of gas. The metal completely disappears within one minute.
YOnly a few bubbles of gas form very slowly. The metal appears almost completely unchanged after three minutes.
ZNo bubbles are observed. The metal remains completely unchanged after three minutes.

Table 2 shows the determined order of reactivity for these four metals.
