Paper chromatography can be used to separate and identify the different dyes found in felt-tip pens.

Six steps for carrying out this chromatography experiment are listed below, but they are not in the correct order.

  1. Place the chromatography paper into the beaker, ensuring the solvent level is below the start line.
  2. Draw a start line in pencil near the bottom of the chromatography paper.
  3. Remove the paper from the beaker just before the solvent reaches the top and mark where the solvent reached.
  4. Add a small volume of solvent to the beaker.
  5. Place a small spot of each felt-tip ink on the pencil start line.
  6. Leave the beaker undisturbed as the solvent travels up the paper.

List the remaining steps in the correct order to complete the sequence.
