Why the higher Edexcel boundaries do not mean it is harder
A boundary tells you the minimum mark needed for a grade in one particular exam series. It is not a permanent difficulty rating for the specification.
Ofqual explains that boundaries are set after papers have been taken and marked. Exam boards consider evidence about the demand of the assessment, the performance of the cohort and the standard of work around possible boundaries. If a paper proves more accessible, its boundary may rise. If it proves more demanding, its boundary may fall.
That is why the 161616-mark gap at A∗A^*A∗ cannot be read as OCR giving away 161616 easier marks. The students answered different questions, and the papers may not have had identical levels of demand. Grade standards, rather than raw boundary percentages, are intended to remain comparable.

How the exam structures compare
The totals are directly comparable because each qualification contains three compulsory papers worth 100100100 marks each. However, the content is arranged differently.

What happens on A-level maths results day?
A-level results day in 2026 is Thursday 13 August. Candidates receive results from 08:0008{:}0008:00, although each school or college decides how students access them. The June 2026 grade boundaries will be released on results day, so any boundary circulated beforehand is only a prediction.
Your results statement normally gives the awarded grade and may also show a mark. If the mark is close to a boundary, speak to your exams officer or teacher before requesting any post-results service. A lower boundary often reflects a more demanding assessment. It does not establish that obtaining the grade was easier.
Mixing OCR A with OCR MEI

Adding notional paper grades
Whole-qualification boundaries determine the final grade. Notional component boundaries can support teaching analysis, but separate paper grades are not added together.
