Maya is twenty months old. She spent four weeks in a residential nursery while both her parents were abroad attending to an urgent family medical emergency. Her grandmother was only able to visit her twice for a brief period during this month.
Since returning home, Maya's parents have noticed that she alternates between ignoring them completely when they enter a room and crying inconsolably when they try to comfort her. She has also stopped babbling as frequently as she did before.
Assess how far research into deprivation could explain Maya’s short-term and long-term behavior following this separation.
You must make reference to the context in your answer.
