Question 92

Liam and Sarah are in their office breakroom looking at photos on Sarah's phone of their company's recent charity networking gala.

The pictures show that the event had no formal sit-down meal, but rather a simple buffet with sliders and spring rolls. Attendees were standing around high-top tables with no chairs in sight, and the guest speaker was wearing casual jeans and a branded t-shirt. Liam is confused; he confidently recalls a lavish three-course plated dinner, guests sitting on velvet-backed mahogany chairs, and the speaker dressed in a tailored three-piece tuxedo.

When Sarah laughs at Liam's incorrect memory, he becomes highly embarrassed, raises his voice defensively, and aggressively kicks a metal wastepaper bin across the hallway as he storms out.

Evaluate the extent to which cognitive psychology can explain human behaviour, such as the situation involving Liam and Sarah.

You must make reference to the context in your answer.
