Elena was investigating how reconstructive memory and schema theory affect recall in a specific environment. She set up a mock mechanic's workshop and placed several workshop-related items (such as a torque wrench and an oil filter) and several non-workshop-related items (such as a rolling pin and a hair straightener) inside it. Participants spent 90 seconds in the workshop and were later asked to write down as many of the items as they could recall.
