Question 99

An experiment is carried out to investigate the rate of reaction between zinc granules and dilute sulfuric acid at 20 ∘C20\text{ }^\circ\text{C}20 ∘C.

The apparatus used to collect and measure the gas released is shown in Figure 1.

Diagram showing a conical flask containing zinc granules and dilute sulfuric acid. The flask is closed with a rubber bung connected to a delivery tube. The delivery tube runs into a trough of water and up into an inverted measuring cylinder, which is filled with water to collect the gas by downward displacement of water.

State one change that can be made to the apparatus in Figure 1 to measure the volume of gas collected more precisely.
