A student investigated phototropism in bean shoots using two different setups, as shown in the diagram below.

After 3 days, the shoot has grown straight upwards. Setup B shows an identical setup, but the light source is positioned to the left side of the plant pot. After 3 days, the shoot has bent towards the left light source.
