Question 9

Dr Gregory is the chief executive of a private medical clinic. He works 60 hours a week making critical strategic decisions, but has complete autonomy over his schedule, delegation of duties, and how the clinic is run. Sam is a medical receptionist at the same clinic. Sam's workload is dictated entirely by patient arrivals and the doctors' schedules. Sam has no influence over how tasks are completed or organized, and frequently has to work overtime to clear administrative backlogs.

Explain why Dr Gregory or Sam is more likely to suffer from the physiological effects of stress. Refer to research into workplace stress in your answer.
