Question 7

Evelyn is the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of a high-growth tech startup. She routinely works 70 hours a week, makes high-stakes decisions regarding software architecture, and manages multiple teams, but she has absolute autonomy over her daily schedule, which tasks she prioritizes, and how she delegates responsibilities.

Marcus works as a customer support specialist at the same startup. Marcus’s workload is driven entirely by a continuous live queue of incoming customer complaints. He has no authority to deviate from pre-written response scripts, cannot issue refunds without approval, and has his performance monitored by software that tracks his active screen time. He frequently has to work late to clear unresolved tickets.

Explain why Evelyn or Marcus is more likely to suffer from the physiological effects of stress. Refer to research into workplace stress in your answer.
