Question 10

An electronics hobbyist is testing two identical power amplifier modules that generate the same amount of thermal energy during operation. One module has a matte black finish and the other has a shiny silver finish.

The hobbyist stacks the two modules on top of each other:

  • In Setup A, the shiny silver module is placed on top of the matte black module.
  • In Setup B, the matte black module is placed on top of the shiny silver module.

In both setups, the modules are connected to the same power supply and operate under the same conditions. It is observed that the equilibrium temperature of the modules is lower in Setup B than in Setup A.

Explain why the modules reach a lower equilibrium temperature when the matte black module is on top.
