A patient is diagnosed with myopia (short-sightedness). In a myopic eye, light rays from distant objects are focused in front of the retina rather than directly on it. This occurs either because the eyeball is too long relative to its refractive power, or because the structure responsible for the fine-tuning of light refraction is too convex and refracts light too strongly.
