Question 3

While many developed nations have experienced economic growth over the past four decades, the distribution of income has become increasingly unequal. For example, between 1985 and 2020, the Gini coefficient for disposable income in the United States rose from approximately 0.34 to over 0.39, while in Germany it increased from around 0.25 to nearly 0.29.

Evaluate the extent to which international factors, such as globalisation and technological change, are more significant than domestic policy decisions in driving the increase in income inequality in a developed economy of your choice.
