Question 104

Listening to an exhibition

Text: an original contemporary review-style practice extract.

The exhibition offered an audio tour through borrowed headsets. Each numbered track described a different photograph, and visitors selected the tracks themselves. I could skip a picture or listen twice without waiting for a group. The headphones were light, although their padded covers became warm after a few minutes.

My favourite feature was the short silence after each description. It gave me time to look again before another voice began. The tour did not tell me where to stand, so I moved closer to details that had been mentioned. I returned the headset at the desk, having spent longer with fewer photographs than on my previous visit.

From the paragraph beginning “My favourite”, identify one feature of the audio tour the writer particularly liked.
