The garden trail entrance
Text: an original contemporary report-style practice extract.
The garden trail originally scanned visitors’ tickets beside the west-facing gate. By early afternoon, sunlight reflected from the scanner’s screen and made the information difficult for volunteers to read. The scanner was therefore placed under the entrance shelter, where a second volunteer also hands out route maps. Visitors still join the same queue before entering the trail. Staff test the scanner each morning and keep printed admission lists nearby in case the device stops working.
From the extract, identify one reason the organisers chose a different position for the ticket scanner.
