Question 89

The recording booth

Text: an original contemporary report-style practice extract.

The oral-history project moved its recording booth away from the café doorway because the coffee grinder could be heard on interviews. Contributors still met the organiser in the café before going upstairs to record. The new room had no photographs on its walls, so several participants brought their own objects to help them remember. Recordings were copied to two separate drives at the end of each session. The move reduced background noise, although it did not remove the need to check every file afterwards.

From the extract, identify one reason the project moved its recording booth.
