Question 83

A visit to a pottery studio

Text: an original contemporary review-style practice extract.

The visit began beside the pottery wheels, where an instructor showed us how clay was shaped. We watched bowls being trimmed and saw the kiln through a safety window. Aprons were provided, and a marked line kept visitors clear of the workbenches.

The most useful part was the sample table, where I could compare a mug made from smooth clay with one made from clay containing grit. Afterwards, the instructor gave us a card with the studio's opening hours and showed us the exit.

What could the writer do at the sample table?
