Question 21

A clearer cue sheet

Text: an original contemporary personal account-style practice extract.

I was helping with the lighting during the youth theatre's final rehearsal. The cue sheet listed each change in the order it would happen, so I could prepare the next switch before the actors reached their mark. A strip of colour beside each cue matched the label on the lighting controls, which stopped me searching through the panel while the scene was under way. I still needed the stage manager to tell me when to begin the first cue. After that, the sheet made my job much easier.

From the extract, give two ways the cue sheet helped the writer.
