A student tests three liquid hydrocarbons, P, Q and R, by adding a few drops of orange-brown bromine water to a sample of each and shaking.

Their observations are:

  • P: orange-brown mixture becomes colourless
  • Q: mixture remains orange-brown
  • R: orange-brown mixture becomes colourless

Using these results, comment on the molecular structures of hydrocarbons P, Q and R.
