A student sets up the apparatus shown in Figure 1 to electrolyse dilute sulfuric acid and collect the gases produced at the platinum electrodes.

Figure 1: An electrolysis cell containing dilute sulfuric acid. Two inert platinum electrodes are placed at the bottom of a beaker and connected to a direct current electricity supply. One electrode is labeled positive (+ anode) and the other is labeled negative (- cathode). Over each electrode, an inverted test-tube filled with the acid solution is placed to collect the rising gas bubbles.

The student cannot measure the precise volumes of gas collected using the standard test-tubes shown.

Suggest one alternative piece of apparatus that could be inverted over the electrodes in place of the test-tubes to allow the volume of the gases to be measured.
