In a study of environmental behaviour, a researcher conducted an investigation at two local youth clubs. In stage one of the study, she observed the waste disposal choices of teenagers (aged 13–16) at both Youth Club X and Youth Club Y after they had watched an informational video campaign. She recorded whether the disposal of their snack packaging was eco-friendly or not. Eco-friendly choices included using the recycling or composting bins. Non-eco-friendly choices included throwing recyclable material into the general waste bin or littering on the floor.
All the teenagers watched Video X, in which the benefits of recycling and composting were explained. The presenters in this video were popular social media influencers. After the video, and for the following two weeks, the researcher observed the teenagers' disposal habits in the common area and recorded whether their choices were eco-friendly or not.

The presenters used in this video were unknown local council workers who were matched by age and gender to the social media influencers used in Video X. The script used for Video Y was exactly the same as the script used for Video X. After the video, and for the following two weeks, the same researcher observed the teenagers' disposal habits and recorded whether their choices were eco-friendly or not.
