There have been concerns that recreational activities may influence professional cognitive skills in demanding fields. A researcher conducted a study to explore the relationship between daily video game play time and spatial orientation skills in trainee drone pilots. The researcher obtained an opportunity sample of 12 trainees, aged 18 to 22, from a local aviation academy. Each trainee provided self-report data tracking their average daily video game usage (in hours) over a 7-day period. They then completed a standardized Spatial Orientation Assessment (SOA). The assessment was scored out of 50, where a low score indicated poor spatial orientation and a high score indicated excellent spatial orientation.
| Trainee | Hours spent gaming daily | Spatial orientation score |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 4.5 | 42 |
| 2 | 1.0 | 22 |
| 3 | 5.0 | 48 |
| 4 | 0.5 | 15 |
| 5 | 3.0 | 35 |
| 6 | 2.5 | 31 |
| 7 | 1.5 | 20 |
| 8 | 4.0 | 38 |
| 9 | 2.0 | 28 |
| 10 | 0.0 | 12 |
| 11 | 3.5 | 36 |
| 12 | 5.5 | 45 |
At the end of the study, the researcher debriefed the participants. Write a debriefing that could have been read out to all the participants in this study.
