Question 4

A light micrograph of a fungal spore was taken using a ×100 \times 100\,×100 oil-immersion objective lens. The eyepiece graticule was calibrated using a stage micrometer.

  • The 0 mark on the eyepiece graticule aligns with the 0 mark on the stage micrometer.
  • The 60 mark on the eyepiece graticule aligns with the 7th division mark on the stage micrometer scale.

Each division on the stage micrometer scale represents exactly 0.01 mm.

The fungal spore is measured using the same eyepiece graticule and is found to span from division 8 to division 31 on the eyepiece graticule scale.

Calculate the actual length of the fungal spore. Give your answer in μ \mu\,μm to 2 significant figures.
