Question 54

The fire station open day

The fire station had planned to hold its open day in the vehicle bay. On the morning of the event, a delivery of fuel drums occupied part of the bay, so display equipment had to be placed in the training yard. The public entrance was at the front gate, but road repairs had closed that gate and the temporary route was marked only by a small notice. The loudspeaker used for announcements had a flat battery. A hose demonstration could not begin until the yard had been cleared of delivery pallets. The driver who knew where the pallets could be moved was attending an emergency call, and rain was forecast before the final demonstration ended.

Describe the difficulties faced by the fire station in running the open day. You may support your points with brief quotations.
