The replaced handle
The repairer returned my suitcase with its new handle fixed in place. He offered it across the counter, but I slid my free hand underneath the base before lifting it, keeping the case close enough to set it down at once. He packed it with bundles of old catalogues and carried it around the workshop twice. The fastenings did not move. When the paperwork was finished, I picked up the case by the handle alone and let it swing beside me as I walked towards the door.
From the passage, select one word or phrase from the writer’s actions that suggests they initially doubt the new handle and one word or phrase that suggests they later trust it.
